Eco Car Challenge

Will Science Save Us?

I’ve long been of the broad opinion that science has the answers to most of the problems that we the human race face….if given the time needed to make the discoveries needed.

Much like the engineers that are working on economically sound cars right now we need to be working on scientific solutions to many other problems such as population overcrowding and shortage of food due again to overpopulation. Biomedical scientists are as I understand it looking into many methods of helping the human body adapt to the changes in the environment all of the time so I have a great hope that we will bring about a discovery that can help relieve our woes soon. Eco friendly car- do not use it indiscriminately

It is important to remember that buying an eco friendly car does not give you the license to use it indiscriminately. This is how we have made a mess out of fossil fuels as well. Using the car to travel over short distances that can be covered on foot or with the help of a bicycle does not make sense. Just because you are driving an eco friendly car does not give you the right to ignore this. Do not forget that walking will help you improve your fitness as well.

2012 Green Cars in the UK

I have recently thought about doing some thorough research on this year’s green cars in the UK. Ever since I moved, my plan was to check out the state of things here in relation to the green fuel alternative matter. To my delight, I found plenty of car manufacturers that were working on putting more green technology on the roads. I know a lot of you don’t probably fancy these eco-friendly cars because they might not offer you the horsepower you love so much. You might also be reticent at the thought of sitting behind the wheel of such a car because hybrids tend to be smaller than their gas-powered counterparts. Maybe you have always driven larger vehicles like trucks or SUV’s. So, I thought I should lend you a hand and display some of the best electric cars 2012 manufacturers have created.

Why biofuel?

Since I started writing this blog, I’ve been banging on about the benefits of clean fuel to the environment. Today I’d like to give you a few of the reasons why you will also benefit from using clean fuel, in addition, of course, to living on a cleaner and healthier planet! There are many reasons why people use biofuels instead of fossil fuels. Following are some of the major ones:

Smart tech use to save the environment

It is a misconception that car manufacturing companies are not doing their bit to enhance environmental protection. There was a time when each and every design of the automobile had to be drawn on paper or created with mold. Today, bulk of the design is done with computers. The process is very similar to what is seen at www.colour-graphics.co.uk. Of course, the difference here is that the car manufacturers make car while this website focuses on printing banners.

Something Special – Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid

Something Special – Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid

The common belief is that hybrids are slow, odd looking vehicles which offer improved fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions but reduced safety, comfort and quality of materials. Well not any more. Friends, I give you Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid, the car that will revolutionise the automotive industry forever. Not because it is going to be the fastest car on the planet, or the most economical, or the most practical one, but because it will change the way we think about hybrids. This Porshce 918 is in fact a two seater supercar with open top and mind-boggling design features, like the wheels for instance. The car started as a concept but from the company recently announced that due to the high interest, the car will indeed enter their high tech factory. This is good news for around 2000 people who have shown interest in the car. A few words about the powertrain: the car has centrally mounted 3.4 litre V8 which produces 500bhp. In addition, two electric motors are mounted on each of the two axles. Their combined power is around 218bhp. If we add up the power of all three engines, we get 718bhp, which is a lot of power. This however is not that impressive. The average fuel consumption is what sets this car apart from anything else on the road – 94 MPG and 79g of C02 per kilometer. Well I really don’t know what to say. And that is not all; this car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.2 seconds. It has four wheel drive system and I guarantee you that it will be more stable and safer on the road that most 4X4 cars. Do you now understand why this car is so special?

A Great Eco Car – Ford Fusion Hybrid

Hybrid cars are the hottest things today. After all, even Leonardo di Caprio drives one. But did you think that hybrid cars were only for eco friendly geeks who were willing to sacrifice driving performance for fuel efficiency? Then there is a car that is going to prove you wrong.

The Ford Fusion Hybrid proves that the future is here. In fact, since its launch in 2010, the Fusion Hybrid has just been piling up awards. A few of the accolades it won include:

  • · The North American Car of the Year prize at the 2010 Detroit auto show. A committee of forty nine North American automotive journalists chooses the winners based on value, safety handling, innovation, design and driver satisfaction.
  • · The Hermance Vehicle Efficiency Award, organized by HybridCars.com, gave its coveted award to the 2010 Fusion Hybrid.
  • · One of Car and Driver magazine’s “10 Best Cars for 2010.”
  • · Motor Trend’s Car of the Year

Impressive, isn’t it? As if all these accolades were not enough, customers have also given the Ford Fusion Hybrid a resounding thumbs up. It ranked number 2 in hybrid car sales for 2010, leaving far behind the Honda Insight and the Toyota Camry Hybrid in the dust.

The Prius may be for those who hold low emissions sacrosanct, but for those of us who value a decent, comfortable ride and a smooth performance in a car, the Ford Fusion Hybrid is the way to go. It can also be your answer to the best family car.

Positioned solidly in the middle of the mainstream market, the Ford Fusion Hybrid has a fuel efficiency of about 35 to 40 miles per gallon (or 5.7 to 6.5 litres per 100 km) for city driving. The base price is about US$ 29,000, minus extras and accessories. In fact, the Ford Fusion Hybrid is the ideal four door sedan for the eco friendly family.

Popularizing Green Vehicles – Show Them The Money

Popularizing Green Vehicles – Show Them The Money

It is a sad truth of life that greed motivates people more than morality and goodness. An individual will not hesitate to adopt an inconvenient lifestyle if it helps save a few thousand dollars in the long run. Asking an individual to save the planet for unknown and unseen future generations will never work. A monetary award will work as a better motivational tool.

Buying a car out of one’s savings is not an easy task. We are always on the lookout for cheaper loans to finance a car purchase. In such a scenario, offering low interest loans on hybrid and green cars will encourage more people to buy the same. There was a time when hybrid cars suffered when its performance was compared to standard automobiles. Today, it is possible to drive an electric auto mobile and enjoy the same performance and on road experience as a standard gasoline powered automobile.

As one date, bulk of government subsidies offered to green cars is diverted to making the vehicles as affordable as gasoline cars. Change, even from bad to good, does not take place without inconvenience. People will have to enjoy significant reduction in cost before they accept the inconvenient change towards electrical vehicles. Higher demand and long term prospects will encourage car manufacturers to invest more in R&D once a significant chunk of automobile users shift toward to electrical vehicles.

The trick is to start the chain reaction. The vicious cycle, once started, will take care of itself and pull more and more people towards green vehicles.

RAC Future Car Challenge

RAC Future Car Challenge

A friend of mine who was looking for ostelli Londra for her visit to the city was telling me about the ECO Car Challenge in the United States. I was sure I had heard about a similar challenge here in the UK so I checked it out. Here is what I found out.

This is a car challenge that is organized every year by the Royal Automobile Club. It is basically to test the efficiency of development and pre-production vehicles. The vehicles involved will run from Brighton to London.

There are various organizations and corporate bodies that support the future car challenge. An example of corporate bodies that support the 2011 RAC future car challenge is the institution that regulates the activities of mechanical engineers in Britain. In this year’s challenge, many ultra-low carbon and advanced vehicles are scheduled to take part in the race from Brighton to London. The energy that these vehicles must consume is expected to be very low. This year’s challenge is scheduled to take place on the 5th of November.

After the efficiencies of the participating vehicles have been tested, fifteen awardees will emerge and the awards will be presented immediately according to the efficiency of the participating vehicles. Eighty vehicles will be taking part in this year’s challenge instead of the sixty four that competed last year. Only internal combustion engines will be used to power all the participating vehicles, and also, the official CO2 figure must be below 110g/km. Experts in the field of fuel efficiency will monitor the challenge this year.

Hybrid and more

Hybrid and more

Hybrid? Electric? Gas? Water? Wind? Hydrogen? There are so many different ways to power a car these days that it is incredible that the motor industry at large still focuses on the production of mainly petrol powered vehicles. Of course the cynics will argue that this is mainly due to the control oil companies have on the market. However with the recent troubles in the middle east continuing to affect prices of crude oil across the globe it is now only a matter of time before we are forced as a planet to consider fuel alternatives.

Honda and many other big industry names have already produced a number of more fuel efficient cars and their R&D departments seem committed to exploring new and cleaner ways to power our everyday commute. This seems sensible not to mention logical but what does it really mean to the consumer?

Most people hear ’hybrid’and start smirking quietly to themselves knowingly in a corner. Yet Hybrid cars are now more and more common then ever on the everyday roads. Take the new Honda CR-Z as an example. It has a sleek design and shows greatly the potential for Hybrid cars in the future. The mere fact that one of the biggest names in the automotive industry is investing heavily in this new technology shows us all the scope of change that is long overdue. Is it enough though?

The simple truth is that the majority of the world’s population do not believe in renewable fuels and energy as much as the media would have us believe. What will get people focused on changing the way they decide to buy a car in the future is how much money they spend. It always comes down to simple ecomonics. Big business is already ahead of the game on this and many insurance companies have already begun to consider (and in many cases offer) lower premiums to the owners of more fuel efficient cars. This amounts to the consumer sometimes being offered cheap car insurance by many big named brands. It is this strategy that will end up convincing people to part with their gas guzzlers. GM and many other large motoring organisations are realising this and as we move forward into the next decade of the 21st Century it is only a matter of time before we are all driving hybrids and perhaps one day completely clean and environmentally friendly cars.
