The hybrid car battery is similar to any other battery. The main difference is that it has more capacity and saves more power for a long travel. The most significant aspect of the vehicle is its energy storage system. The batteries of hybrid cars work along with the gasoline engine of the car and the electric motor. You must therefore charge the battery as and when required but at regular intervals. All hybrid vehicles make use of regenerative brake technology which recharges the hybrid battery whenever the driver applies brake.

A hybrid car battery lasts about eight to ten years. You must therefore maintain a well functioning battery pack. With the advancement of hybrid battery technology, more types of hybrid batteries are likely to emerge. These batteries are environment friendly as they do not make use of nickel or cadmium. Most of the hybrid cars make use of nickel metal-hybrid battery pack, which can save more energy but they are expensive and thus the hybrid car comes at a premium.

There are some other hybrid cars that will make use of lithium batteries in the near future. As of now, these batteries are used in small hand-held gadgets like laptops or MP3 players. They are expensive to use but can save more power, thus enabling the car to travel hundreds of miles. The only drawback with these batteries is that they contain cobalt, which is explosive in nature. The advantage with the lithium polymer batteries is that they have a good cycle and calendar life.
