Chevy Volt

Chevy Volt

Chevy Volt was first introduced as a concept car in 2007 on a Detroit Auto Show and definitely amazed the world of hybrid cars – the concept car was introduced with quite a fascinating, almost dream, technology of using almost only pure electricity. When the production started and the car could be found on the markets in the early 2009, the technology was and still is a concept one – however, the Chevy Volt is a revolutionary car with significant improvements and advanced technology.

The design of the car was slightly different from the one presented in Detroit, but the aerodynamic is preserved which helps for better interference with the air, reducing the mechanical powers that influence the work of the engine and the motor. The internal design is similar to that of Honda insight hybrid and Toyota Prius ( 5-door-hatchback ) but additionally the car is equipped with more comfortable seats, improved control systems and features. Because of its form, the almost perfect aerodynamic form contributes to the longer battery life and the comfort the car provides makes it quite a desirable hybrid.

The technology that is the most important aspect of the car is quite different from other hybrids. The car is equipped with powerful 16 kilowatt-hours electric motor and has the potential of being used for 40 miles without any fuel necessary relying only on the electric motor and the huge lithium ion battery. After these 40 miles, the engine would start using fuel to satisfy the electricity needs of the motor through special generator and this would give additional 300 miles for “green movement”using only the motor. The 150 hp of the motor are enough to provide adequate and quite satisfactory driving experience.

The innovative approach used in Chevy Volt and the specifications of the car make this model one of the best hybrid cars and definitely the first car from the hybrid generation to rely on the electric motor and the battery for such a long distance ( almost 340 miles with a minimum of fuel usage).
